Geo. Strother – Artist Bio

Baltimore artist George Strother captures both the diversity of the natural world and the supernatural connection that binds all human beings together. His stylistic approach involves painting “from the inside out” allowing the form to unfold organically, layer after layer. While music belongs to time, painting belongs to space, this artist, artistically values thought over feeling and idea over aesthetics so his intention is to uplift and inspire the viewer with vibrant color in acrylics over stretched canvas.

Born in Richmond, VA, George was drawn to art at an early age. Hailing from a family full of artist and craftsman, George was a product of an environment enriched with creativity.

His first experience with art was as a spectator, fascinated by a large painting of his father created by nationally known artist Jerome Jones. Jones, known for his use of color and form, made a name for himself by painting large murals throughout the city. One of his murals caught the eye of the 9 year old Strother at the Boys Club of Richmond where he further fueled his attraction to artistic form and color.

During his high school years George became familiar with various techniques and methods of recreating what your eyes see on to paper mostly with charcoal and pencil. As an engineering student at Tuskegee University, George began to build his art experience by studying the ideology behind the form and color and began to experiment with numerous mediums.

Though self-taught as a painter, a strong art foundation had been laid and the rest as they say is history.  During a brief professional football career and after obtaining a B.S in Marketing from Virginia Commonwealth University, George continued to paint everything from still life’s  to “phone doodles” which he later turned into beautiful works of art.

In 2009, George co-founded StrotherWeinberg Marketing and Design Consultancy, a full-service marketing firm created to provide marketing, social media, and creative design services to small business. Having such a  strong artistic background coupled with savvy business and marketing skills, George is able to provide clients with very creative marketing materials that are not old aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional marketing tools as well.

George continues to be inspired by vibrant colors and the feelings and emotions associated with them. He finds art to be a wonderful stress reliever and not only does he paint as often as he can, he urges others to pick up a brush and do the same. A member of numerous boards such as Virginia Heroes, a non-profit founded by late Author Ash to inspire young men and women through mentorship, George’s ultimate goal is to help facilitate personal transformation and spiritual awakening through his art and inspirational and teachings.

Artist Statement

As a free thinker humbled by spirituality, my paintings are my connection to the unknown. When I sit down to paint I am aware of the profound creative energy over which I have little control. Reckless apprehension leads to wasted time and unoccupied space. Artistically I can right the wrongs of missed opportunities as well as re-live the hopes and dreams that have come to pass.

My art is not only for the eyes but for the ears, evoking an inner most conversation between the looker and the seer, helping them to achieve a level of consciousness and hear themselves in a way that many have never before experienced. In a way that is often imitated but never duplicated.

The interpretation of one’s history provides a glimpse into their future. Throughout time art has been the fabric of human society because it transcends time while recording and linking many histories and cultures. It is this characteristic of art that compels me to continue create.
